Accounts and sign-in

An account is optional and adds one thing: a list of saved properties. Every page on this site is readable without one, and nothing is held back from a signed-out visitor.

Signing in happens at Google. You are sent to Google, you sign in there, and Google returns a verified email address and a stable account identifier to us. IsleScout never sees your password. We ask Google for your email address and nothing else: no profile, no contacts, no files, and no continuing access to your Google account.

What an account holds

Your email address, the identifier Google uses for your account, the date you signed up, the property records you saved with their dates, and, if you have asked for it, the date you agreed to be written to. Nothing else. There is no name, no photograph, no advertising profile, and no tracking across sites.

Cookies

Signing in sets one cookie that keeps you signed in, readable only by us, and a second that lasts only for the moments the sign-in takes. Both are strictly necessary for the account to work, and a signed-out visitor is set neither.

How long it is kept

Your account is kept until you delete it. A sign-in session expires 30 days after it starts, and expired sessions are removed. There is no archive and no backup copy that outlives a deletion.

Export and deletion

The saved properties page carries a link that downloads everything held about your account as a file, and a control that deletes the account. Deleting removes the account, its sessions and its saved list immediately, on the spot, with no email request and no waiting period.

Email we send you

Nothing is sent to you unless you ask for it. An address given to sign in is used to sign you in and for nothing else.

On a village page you can ask for one mail a week about that village. We send one message first to check the address reaches you, and nothing further is sent unless you open the link in it. A request nobody answers is deleted after seven days. In a week when nothing changed in that village, nothing is sent.

What that list holds

Your email address, the village you asked about, which kinds of change you asked for, and the dates you asked, confirmed and were last written to. Nothing else. There is no name, no account required, no advertising profile, and the address is never shared with anyone, sold, or used to reach you about anything other than the village you named.

Stopping it

Every mail carries a link that removes you in one click, with no sign-in and no reason asked, and it works from your mail program's own unsubscribe button too. Your address is then kept only so that we do not write to it again. To have it deleted outright, write to contact@islescout.com.

Data sources

The site holds records built from public listing pages. Any demonstration record is labelled as such wherever it appears. The about page states the current split and when the records were last read at their sources. No source permission, partnership, currency, or availability is claimed.

Real listings

Where a record comes from a public listing, IsleScout stores factual fields, the source name and a link, and nothing else. Images are displayed from the source's own address rather than copied. Descriptions and contact details stay on the source page. Nothing here is presented as verified, current, or authorised. When you follow a link to a source, the address carries a marker naming IsleScout, so they can see the visit came from here. It says nothing about you.

Contact and takedown

Write to contact@islescout.com with the page address. A record is corrected or removed on request, with no proof of ownership required, normally within five working days.

Cookies

Nothing is stored on your device until you agree to it, and the strip at the foot of the site is where you answer. If you allow it, opening a property page stores the addresses of the last five properties you looked at, so the foot of the page can show them again, and keeping a row at the top of a comparison stores which rows those are, so they are at the top of the next comparison too. Both hold page addresses or row names only, nothing that identifies you, they are never shared with anyone, and clearing your cookies removes them. If you have an account, the rows you keep at the top are stored with it instead, and deleting the account deletes them. Your answer itself is stored either way, so you are not asked again.

What is counted

The server keeps three daily totals. One is how many times each property's link to its source was followed. The second is which filter combinations were searched for, and the third is which of those returned no results. A filter is recorded only as a value this site itself publishes, such as a property type or a village name, and anything else is recorded as "other". Words typed into the search box are never kept: a search using it records only that it was used. All three are totals for a date and nothing is stored beside them: no address, no browser, no session, no referrer and no time finer than the day. Nothing connects a total to a person, and they are not shared with anyone.

Reuse
